Jain Community
Mysore city has a
considerable number of people who follow the Jain religion.
They include the Kannada speaking, belonging to Digambar
section and the Marwari community from Rajasthan who belong
to the Shwetambar section of Jainism. Most of the Jains in
Mysore city are in business field. The Jain community has
built a temple completely with marble in Mahveernagar. It
is said to have cost a billion rupees. There is a Digambar
Jain monastery at Aghalaya near Krishna Raja Pet (which is
in hour's drive from Mysore). A Pinjrapole which houses
nearly 2000 heads of cattle mainly rescued from being killed
for meat are housed here which is a charitable work from the
Marwari community. Built on the area of 61 acres of land
donated by the King of Mysore, near Chamundi Foot hills it
is a humanitarian initiative to help animals.
